Nice work... can you describe the process... the angles and movement is very smooth.... and the detail you showed was amazing... what did u render this out in?
Sorry to get back to you so late, haven't been on here for a minute.
Looking back my process was actually pretty sloppy... No storyboarding, no planning really of any kind. I had a few spaceship models I had done previously for personal work, so I just combined that with the assignment of "making a meteor/missile/energy trail".
I animated the ships straight ahead, it's rough and sloppy, but I wasn't worried as much about the animation as I was the missile trail (the whole point of the assignment) so I had to prioritize.
When I'm under a deadline, I designate how much time I can spend on this and that. If I can get it perfect first go around, awesome, but most of the time I have to get it as close as I can and move on.
I actually rendered this out with Maya Software. I wasn't that confident with Mental Ray, still not very much, so I went with what I knew. It was definitely a learning experience, and it's a piece I'm proud of, so I'm happy.
I guess the bottom line is, if it gets the end result, go with it! But I've learned a lot just in the past few months, if I were to go back now I could make this even better.
